Opening the Door

In life you will realize there is a role for everyone you meet… Some will test you, some will use you, some will teach you. But the ones who are truly important are the ones who will bring out the best in you. They are rare and amazing people who remind you why it’s all worth it…

Thinking back over your life, recall that special someone who believed in you and either opened the door for you or gave you the courage and inspiration to open your own door so that you could become the person you are today. If you are a relatively new soul just beginning, then perhaps this blog can somehow ease and inspire your journey. For it does not matter new soul or old, we are all seekers of our own truth.

There are stories of great thinkers, of people who walked this earth past and present, who changed and impacted the world in profound ways. And I began to ask myself and wonder who opened their doors and therefore made it possible for them to change our world. Who are these unrecognized individuals who have played such a significant role in our history and yet remain faceless and little understood. How is it that we rarely reflect or speak about their identity or life.

For Jesus, it might have been John the Baptist who believed that he must step out of the limelight so that Jesus could move into the light. Mother Teresa became known from the documentary ” Something Beautiful for God” produced by Malcolm Muggeridge in 1969. The footage was taken in poor lighting conditions in the Home for the Dying and was thought unusable. After returning from India the footage was found to be extremely well-lit and Muggeridge proclaimed it a miracle of the divine. Gandhi who stated ” I have nothing new to teach the world. Truth and non violence are as old as the hills.” learned from Hussain how to be wronged and be a winner and how to attain victory while being oppressed. Buddha, at age 29 left his home and family and sought out two of the most eminent masters famous for their philosophical systems and achievements in meditation. Oprah Winfrey credits her 4th grade teacher Mrs. Duncan who inspired her and allowed her to preach in class.

For me, I credit St. Francis for touching my heart in Assisi, France and Oprah for her OWN network Super Soul Sunday. The enlightened individuals featured each week on her show, forever changed the way in which I view this world we live in. Someone has or someone will open your door, and when you walk through, I can say with confidence that your life will be forever changed. And while it seldom occurs that these individuals walk through that door with you, somehow someway they give you the wings to FLY. Perhaps it is their own angel wings lent to you for a brief time that lifts your journey to new heights, new destinies, new beginnings.
